Writing to your subscribers is more than just a conversation.
Writing to your subscribers is more than just a conversation. It is also a relationship, and it can even be a transaction.
This relationship doesn’t have to be super personal. I think this holds many people back from communicating more with their list. They are afraid to get too personal.
I suffer from this affliction for sure. It’s not because I am impersonal or don’t like anyone, it’s mainly because I am insecure and afraid to offend others.
It is nerve-wracking to get up close and personal with your customers, especially when it comes time to sell them things.
There are a few strategies I employ to get past these mental road blocks.
Strategy 1:
Talk to one person. If you can talk to just one person, then the pressure is off. This person is your friend, and they want to hear what you have to say.
Now, of course there will be the inevitable crazy who replies with a super aggressive response (TAKE ME OFF YOUR EMAIL). No problem, just take them off and ban their email address forever.
I even considered having a screener for my emails so I didn’t have to mess with even seeing this kind of negativity.
I have handled it so far, however, so maybe it is good for you to work through these hardships.
Strategy 2:
Actually have something good to say/sell. I know there are affiliates and offer owners out there who are legit at promoting products they personally know aren’t very good.
I think this has to be an uphill battle though.
It is definitely easier for me to push a product or service that I know will genuinely help others. This also creates goodwill and trust among your followers and subscribers.
If you are a long time blogger, you know that sending emails has and will be a popular and effective method for driving traffic and sales.
